_Keeping warm during
the cold winter months!
By Mellisa Hoffman
A priority for most people during the winter is staying warm. Unfortunately, with the rising gas and electric prices, staying as warm as you would like is not real easy on the pocketbook. If you are looking to lower your heating bills, but still remain comfortable, here are some easy and less expensive ways to stay warm during the cold months: Use rugs. Rugs on bare floors keep feet warmer.
Stop drafts. You can use weatherstripping or different forms of insulation to block drafts coming through doors or windows. If you have uneven spaces, even a blanket in front of the door will help.
Use a down comforter for warmth. This is a really good way to save money on electricity. Try covering up at night with
the warmth of down. You will easily be able to lower that thermostat and save on money!
Bundle up. Simply wear more clothes: sweaters, hats, scarves, gloves, slippers, and even long underwear will help keep you cozy.
Open the curtains. Let the sunshine in. Use solar power to add some warmth to your home.
Buy a kerosene heater. Using a kerosene heater will help to lower your utility bill. If you live in a two story house and want to really save, keep your kerosene heater off during the night while using your down comforter and in the morning turn your kerosene heater on downstairs where everybody will be active.
Check your furnace filter. A dirty filter will cut into the efficiency of your furnace and force it to work harder for the same amount of output. Replace it when you decide to turn your furnace on for the winter, then make sure you check it every month. To save even further purchase an air filter that you can rinse away the dirt and use again. They’re easy to use!
